Are you seeking a guide for trail and alpine running (aka mountain running) in Utah? We can take you on the classic alpine and trail runs in the Wasatch Mountains. From the Park City Ridgeline, to sections of the WURL, to unknown alpine trails in the Southern Wasatch. In addition to risk mitigation, planning the route,  and being available for first aid, we will be sure to pace you according to your fitness and goals.

Whether it’s for fun or for training, book a guided trail running trip with Wasatch Mountain Guides and get ready for a beautiful experience.

    • NOTE: if you would like to book any variation besides full day, contact us directly. If you’d like to book full-day, select a date on the calendar. A full day is a 5+ hour outing.

  • Ideal Training for the WURL — This guided alpine running trip is the perfect way to train for the Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup (WURL). The WURL is a ~36-mile, ~18,000 ft elevation gain ridge traverse that involves boulder-hopping, scrambling, and technical terrain.

  • Develop Scrambling and Rock Skills — Our guide can lead you over exposed ridgelines, handle low Class 5 scrambling, and teach you how to move efficiently and safely in technical alpine terrain — exactly the kind of skills you’ll need for sections of the WURL.

  • Progressive, Real-World Training — Instead of just a jog on a mellow trail, we’ll take you over ridgelines and rugged alpine terrain, replicating the challenges of the WURL. This isn’t just mileage — it’s purposeful, race- or FKT-style (Fastest Known Time) training. Or training to set and achieve your goal for the ultrarun.

  • Ultra-Approachability — Whether you’re building up toward a full WURL attempt or just want experience on ridge scrambles, our guided runs can be tailored: from 5-mile training pushes to full-day, high vertical effort sessions.

  • Safety + Risk Management — Our AMGA-trained guides bring risk-mitigation, expert route planning, and first aid readiness — critical when training for a high-exposure traverse like the WURL.

  • Mental & Physical Preparation — Beyond physical training, these sessions help you get mentally ready for a multi-peak, demanding traverse. The WURL is known for being as much a test of stamina and mental grit as of technical skill.

  • Local Knowledge: Our guides know the safest, most aesthetic ridgelines and singletrack in the Wasatch.
  • Efficiency & Flow: Skip the guesswork—maximize vertical, distance, and adventure in one seamless day.
  • Custom Goals: From 5-mile pushes to 20+ mile endurance days, every route is tailored to your fitness.
  • Safety: Guided by AMGA-trained professionals, with supervision from an experienced alpine runner.

Do I need to be an ultra runner?
Not at all. We build traverses for intermediate to advanced runners—whether you want 5 miles or 20+, we’ll match the route to your ability.

How technical are the trails?
Most routes are rugged alpine singletrack and ridgelines. Expect steep climbs, uneven terrain, and some exposure. It Utah we’ll also run through many forests (fir and aspen) and also sub-alpine terrain.

Can this be a training day for a race?
Yes! Many clients use these traverses as ultra training or as part of their mountain running season.
